Blepharoplasty

Please follow these instructions carefully. Your final result will depend upon how well you care for the treated areas.

Things you SHOULD do:

  • Clean suture lines with hydrogen peroxide and a Q-tip 3 times daily.
  • Apply Lacri-Lube or artificial tears in your eyes if they feel dry or irritated.
  • Report any eye pain or change in your vision to the clinic staff immediately.
  • Wear glasses, if necessary, being sure they do not pull on the incision line.
  • Continue cold compresses over the eyelids for two days.
  • Sleep with head elevated 30 to 40 degrees.
  • Wash your hair following surgery, if desired. You may shower normally, but do not wash the face around the eyes for 7 days.

Things you SHOULD NOT do:

  • Apply any make-up around the incisions (mascara, eyeliner, or eye shadow) for the first 7 days following surgery.
  • Wear contact lenses for 10 days.
  • Pluck eyebrows for 2 weeks.

Remember: You will experience some swelling and bruising of the eyelids and perhaps the whites of the eye. This will fade in 7-10 days. Staying upright and using the ice packs will help. You will also experience some blurring of the vision for 2-3 days after the surgery. This is also due to the swelling and will fade with time.
